Red Cross Babysitter’s Training (Ages 11–16)
This in-person Red Cross course teaches teens the caregiving skills and the confidence they need to care for children and infants. Through hands-on activities, video lessons, and real-world scenarios, students learn how to handle feedings, diaper changes, safety checks, and emergency situations like a pro.

Safe Sitter ® (Grades 6–8)
Safe Sitter® teaches middle school students how to stay safe while home alone, to care for younger siblings, and to babysit responsibly. This instructor-led course uses fun games and role-playing to develop practical skills and to build confidence.
Students in this course will learn:
- Safety Skills –Preventing accidents and handling emergencies like power outages and severe weather.
- Childcare Skills – Tips for managing children’s behavior, understanding child development, and practicing diapering.
- First Aid & Rescue Skills – Manual choking intervention, CPR, and assessing and responding to injuries and illnesses. Students will earn a First Aid and CPR certificate through our partnership with the American Health and Safety Institute.
- Life & Business Skills – Job screening, setting fair rates, and communicating professionally with employers.

Safe@Home
Safe@Home is designed to enable any adult who enjoys teaching preteens to facilitate an introductory-level program to prepare students to care for themselves when parents are away for short periods. You don’t need to be a Safe Sitter® Instructor to teach Safe@Home.
Students learn how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and what to do during challenges such as power failures or weather emergencies. Students are also introduced to the Safe Sitter® First Aid Chart and learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses. The program is designed to prepare students for their first steps toward independence.
Advanced Childcare Program (All Ages)
This in-person course is ideal for adults—especially new parents, foster parents, and adoptive parents—who want to sharpen their child care skills. Led by childcare experts, the course covers topics like infant and child care techniques, discipline and behavior guidance, and emergency response skills.
Participants will gain hands-on training in feeding, diapering, and bedtime routines, as well as life-saving strategies like first aid, CPR, and choking relief.

Grandparents Getting Started
Taught by certified Safe Sitter ® instructors, this course equips grandparents with the skills and knowledge they need to care for their grandchildren. Participants will learn the latest best practices for infant and child care, behavior management strategies, and essential life-saving techniques, including manual choking intervention, first aid, and injury response.
In addition to hands-on caregiving training, instructors also offer guidance on setting boundaries, fostering a positive relationship with their adult children, and making the most of their time with grandchildren.
HSI Child and Babysitter Safety Training (Ages 11–14)
The HSI Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) program prepares teens and young adults for safe, responsible babysitting. This course covers everything from starting a babysitting business to handling parents, caring for children, and responding to emergencies.
